EVELYN VÁSQUEZ JAQUEZ
“What hurt me the most was when the doctor told me that I had to remove my breast, which was already reduced from the burns I had suffered in the late 90’s that kept me depressed and crying for 21 days”, were the words of the Catholic singer Evelyn Vásquez.
Evelyn Vásquez, who started-off her career thanks to her blessed singing attributes, surprisingly share with us her health ordeals. In despite her promising career, Evelyn has had to endure the impact of breast cancer in her own flesh: a killer disease that affects millions of women around the world. She has not only have had to deal with the chemotherapy side effects, but also the economical difficulties that it brings it. While touring around Colombia in 2014, she inadvertently started to experience some nuances; yet it fell through the cracks. Later, a biopsy confirmed her fears.
But if we go some 18 years back, her story was no less suffering than today. In December of 1999, while doing some homework, she bumped with a gas lamp that caught fire on her body due to the lighter fluid. She suffered third degree burns, leaving her left hand with irreparable problems. These burns are evident in her belly, breast and other parts of her body; yet this horrible experience did not stop her on her career.
Coming back to her recent career years, she spent all the time in bed due to some complicated medical procedures in 2015. In despite of a extensive part of her body being compromised, she still managed to slowly recover. Later, we started seeing her touring on Miami, Panama, Mexico and other countries.
As probably most people must know, this stubborn condition refuses to leave the body, and in December of 2017 it happened the worst. She experienced a severe backlash that put her in a wheelchair. At this stage, doctors were not very positive since her cancer had metastasized to the sternum.
Since that day her little ordeal started having to practically work only to pay her astronomical medical bills. Remarkably she stills has a positive attitude and when you see her at stage you will never tell what she had to suffer. Far from it she says: “Everything I’ve earned in my concerts and tours has gone into this; yet I thanks God because I was able to get ahead with the treatment” Evelyn said. Undoubtedly Evelyn is a fighter that inspires thousands with her music to not lose their faith.
